President and CEO of SMMCOC, Doris Cammack-Spencer has received her COVID-19 vaccine. Doris states,
“Once the vaccine becomes widely available, I encourage everyone to receive it.”
Cases in Maryland and around the world continue to reach record highs. The virus continues to disproportionately affect African Americans and other minority groups.
Although studies show that many African Americans remain apprehensive about receiving the vaccine, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Emergency Use Authorizations (EUA) for two COVID-19 vaccines.
They have been shown to be safe and effective as determined by data from large clinical trials. This data demonstrates that the known and potential benefits of this vaccine outweigh the known and potential harms of becoming infected with the COVID 19 (source CDC https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/safety.html).
