PSEG Keys Energy Center LLC Project Director Andrew Caplinger recently gave a briefing to Brandywine North Keys Civic Association regarding recent updates with the project.

The PSEG Keys Energy Center LLC, owned by PSEG Fossil, a subsidiary of PSEG Power, began construction in 2015 of a new clean, natural gas-fired, power plant in Prince George’s County, Maryland and is targeted to be in operation in 2018.

The PSEG Keys Energy Center LLC project will be constructed on a 180+ acre parcel of land previously used for a sand and gravel mining operation. The site is located north of North Keys Road approximately 1.25 miles east of Brandywine, Maryland.

The PSEG Keys Energy Center LLC will represent a $825-$875 million investment to the local and regional economy.

Over the 40-year life of the project, it is anticipated that the PSEG Keys Energy Center LLC will bring significant new tax revenue—approximately $640 million in various taxes—to Charles County, the State of Maryland, Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George’s County and the Washington Suburban Transit Commission.

The project will generate about 700 jobs during the two-year construction phase. More than 20 permanent jobs will be created to run the new plant when it becomes operational.

In addition, as part of the Community Foundation Agreement, PSEG Power will donate $3 million toward the construction of a new Southern Area Aquatic and Recreation Complex (SAARC) in Brandywine, Maryland. The SAARC will include indoor aquatic space, a gymnasium, a fitness room and flexible programmable space.
